Being an amateur music maker

I will admit to making music, but I don't make good music. I know that that's a subjective thing, whether music is good or not, but I mean it - my music isn't all that great. And I don't really mind.

My main passion is writing, although I suppose I'll be doing a chemistry degree come September, so perhaps my ambitions and passions are misplaced somewhat. I've been practising my writing skills a lot since I was young, indeed I remember my very first poems from primary school - one was about sugar and salt and was rather mid, unless you're six in which case you're practically Betjeman.

Music, meanwhile, serves as something for me to have fun with. There's no real desire for it to be great or anything impressive, instead I just bash on some keys in a DAW and see how it goes. The result is something far less impressive. Sure, I could spend longer properly practising, but I don't know whether this would give me more fun - I'd become susceptible to perfectionism, and as someone who's often anxious about minute details, I'd rather not let another hobby fall to that.

I wonder if you, dear reader, feel the same about certain hobbies and interests, and just don't prioritise them as much as you do others. Based on my blog, I'd hope you'd think I can write well; based on my music...less so.
