Why do people expect more from me than I expect from myself?

I got a maths test back. I got 83%. Apparently, this wasn't up to "my" standard. So said my teacher.

Typically, I get about 80% in maths exams. But I'm supposed to feel disappointed that I'm doing as well as I usually do.

Right.

I understand that the teacher may have been trying to encourage me to do better in maths. Yet they failed, if that was their aim.

I always feel like my expectations are already high, but people want me to go far beyond them. It's like my best isn't good enough, and I just need to carry on.

It feels Sisyphean to me, the idea that I have to continue moving the boulder up the hill, and no matter what I'll never get up to the top. So is there even a point in trying?

Why do people expect more from me than I expect from myself (at least, what I realistically expect from myself)?
